U.S. President Donald Trump said a memorandum of understanding concerning peace with Iran has been “largely negotiated” and that final details are being discussed, adding that the Strait of Hormuz will be opened as part of the agreement.
Trump made the remarks in a Truth Social post after what he described as a “very good call” from the Oval Office with leaders and officials from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Pakistan, Türkiye, Egypt, Jordan and Bahrain.
“Final aspects and details of the Deal are currently being discussed, and will be announced shortly,” Trump said.
Trump said the call concerned Iran and “all things related to a Memorandum of Understanding pertaining to PEACE.”
“An Agreement has been largely negotiated, subject to finalization between the United States of America, the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the various other Countries, as listed,” he said.
Trump said the Strait of Hormuz would be opened as part of the agreement.
“In addition to many other elements of the Agreement, the Strait of Hormuz will be opened,” he added.
Trump said the call included Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and Qatar’s Minister Ali al-Thawadi.
He also listed Pakistan’s Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir Ahmed Shah, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of Türkiye, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Jordan’s King Abdullah II and Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa as participants in the call.
Trump said he separately held a call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“Separately, I had a call with Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu, of Israel, which, likewise, went very well,” Trump said.
He did not provide further details on the Netanyahu call.
