U.S. President Donald Trump said Wednesday he would like to see Israel allow international journalists to enter Gaza, where tens of thousands have been killed since the war began in October 2023.

Speaking at a press conference in the Oval Office, Trump was asked whether he would press Israel to grant media access to the enclave. “I would like that to happen. I have no objection to journalists going in. If you are a journalist, doing an interview that could be dangerous, you know that, but I would like to see it happen,” he said.

The Gaza war, since Oct. 7, 2023, has killed at least 75,591 Palestinians — the vast majority civilians — by Israel and 2,046 people in Israel, according to figures from local authorities. More than 139,000 people have been injured, and about 1.9 million Palestinians have been displaced.

At least 192 journalists have been killed in the conflict, including 178 Palestinian reporters, most in Israeli strikes, according to press freedom groups.
