United States President Donald Trump warned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that if he returned to war with Iran, he could find himself fighting alone, news outlet Axios reported Monday.

"I said, 'Bibi, you better be careful, or you will be on your own very soon,'" Axios quoted Trump as saying in a phone interview.

According to Axios, two US officials and a source familiar with the Israeli side of the discussion said the latest call was notably calmer than an earlier exchange in which Trump reportedly called Netanyahu "f****** crazy."

The reported warning came as tensions remained high following a brief escalation between Israel and Iran.

Netanyahu vows tougher response to future attacks

Netanyahu on Monday vowed a “much harsher” response to any future attack by Iran following the recent exchange of hostilities between the two countries.

Meanwhile, Netanyahu and Trump spoke by phone on Monday amid heightened tensions between Tel Aviv and Tehran following Israeli attacks on the Lebanese capital Beirut.

Israel's Channel 13 reported that the call took place shortly before Iran announced it would suspend attacks on Israel if Tel Aviv halted its strikes.

Israel Hayom newspaper reported that the United States and Israel sent a message to Iran saying no further attacks would be carried out if Tehran agreed not to resume fighting.

Israeli authorities have not issued an official statement regarding the phone call between Netanyahu and Trump or reports concerning the cessation of hostilities with Iran.

However, Israel's Channel 12, citing an Israeli official, reported that Tel Aviv halted its attacks on Iran at Trump's request.

Tensions escalated on Sunday when Israel carried out an airstrike on the Lebanese capital Beirut, saying it targeted a Hezbollah command and planning center.

The strike prompted Iran to launch missiles toward northern Israel in retaliation, while Israel responded with several waves of airstrikes against Iranian targets.

In a post on his Truth Social platform early Monday, Trump called on Israel and Iran to stop fighting "immediately" following the exchange of attacks.
