U.S. President Donald Trump threatened Iran with fresh military strikes on Wednesday, saying American forces would "probably" hit the country again later in the day after Tuesday's overnight attacks.

"We hit them very hard last night. Probably hit them hard again tonight. I'll give them a little warning. We're going to hit them hard tonight," Trump told reporters during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Ankara.

Trump declares Iran ceasefire framework 'over'

The remarks came after Trump condemned Iran over recent attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, which Washington blamed for derailing last month's fragile ceasefire.

Speaking during the NATO summit in Ankara, the U.S. president declared that the memorandum of understanding reached with Tehran in June to halt hostilities had effectively collapsed, arguing there was little point in pursuing further diplomacy after the latest exchange of attacks.

"It's a very interesting question to me. I think it's over," Trump said when asked whether the framework agreement remained in force.

"The ceasefire is over. I don't want to deal with this scum anymore. They're liars, they're cheats, they're sick people. These are evil, sick people, and we have to cut out their cancer."

Trump sees path to Ukraine settlement

Turning to the war in Ukraine, Trump described his meeting with Zelenskyy as "a great honor" and argued that both Kyiv and Moscow want to end the fighting.

"He wants to see a settlement, and I think President Putin wants to see a settlement," Trump remarked, adding that he has spoken frequently with Russian President Vladimir Putin and believes the Russian leader wants to end the war soon.

Trump also announced that Washington will grant Ukraine a license to manufacture Patriot air defense missiles.

"So one of the things we're going to be talking about is we're going to give a licence to you to make Patriots. That's pretty cool, right. This way, you can't complain that we're not giving you enough," he told Zelenskyy.
