Türkiye’s exports to EU near $72B in January-August

Türkiye’s exports to European Union countries rose 3.6% year-on-year to $71.79 billion in the January-August period, according to data compiled from the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM).

Türkiye’s overall exports increased 4% over the same period, rising from $177.9 billion to $185 billion.

Exports to EU countries climbed from $69.32 billion to $71.79 billion, an increase of about $2.47 billion.

Germany remained Türkiye’s largest EU export market, receiving $13.58 billion in goods, up 3.8% from a year earlier.

It was followed by Italy with $8.56 billion, Spain with $7.24 billion, France with $6.93 billion and Romania with $4.89 billion.

Exports to Italy rose 4.3%, Spain 7.4% and France 5.2%, while shipments to Romania fell 5.5%.

Malta records fastest export growth

Malta recorded the largest proportional increase among EU markets, with Türkiye’s exports rising 107% from $324.5 million to $671.6 million.

It was followed by Slovakia with a 32.8% increase, Finland with 25.3%, Bulgaria with 17%, and Austria with 14.4%.

Exports reached $1.46 billion to Slovakia, $408.7 million to Finland, $3.44 billion to Bulgaria and $1.41 billion to Austria.

Overall, Türkiye’s exports increased to 17 EU countries and declined to 10 during the eight months.

Germany, Italy, Spain and France remained Türkiye’s four largest EU export markets by value, with combined shipments reaching about $36.3 billion.

Automotive leads EU exports

The automotive industry remained Türkiye’s largest exporting sector to the EU, with shipments rising 4.5% from $19.19 billion to $20.06 billion.

It was followed by chemicals and chemical products with $9.06 billion and ready-to-wear clothing and apparel with $6.54 billion.

Iron and non-ferrous metals recorded the largest increase in export value to the EU, rising 18.6% from $4.87 billion to $5.77 billion, an increase of about $904.5 million.

The automotive industry posted the second-largest increase at $872.1 million, followed by electrical and electronics exports with a $269.5 million gain.

Istanbul leads Türkiye’s EU exports

Istanbul, Kocaeli, Bursa, Ankara and Izmir accounted for nearly $53.6 billion of Türkiye’s exports to the EU’s 27 member states between January and August.

Istanbul led with $25.44 billion in exports, followed by Kocaeli with $10.11 billion, Bursa with $8.31 billion, Ankara with $4.91 billion, and Izmir with $4.79 billion.
