An American citizen, Saif al-Din Kamel Abdul Karim Musallat, was beaten to death during an assault by Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank, Palestinian sources said Thursday.
The incident took place in a town north of Ramallah, where settlers allegedly attacked a group of Palestinians. According to local health authorities cited by the Palestinian news agency WAFA, Musallat died after being severely beaten. Ten others were reportedly injured in the same attack.
A U.S. State Department spokesperson confirmed awareness of reports concerning the death of a U.S. citizen in the West Bank. “Out of respect for the family’s privacy, we have no further comment at this time,” the spokesperson said.
The U.N. Human Rights Office has previously raised alarm over increasing settler attacks and the expansion of Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, calling their integration into Israeli territory a violation of international law.
The killing comes amid continued Israeli military operations in Gaza, where, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry, over 57,000 people have been killed since Oct. 7, 2023.
Musallat joins a list of U.S. citizens killed in the West Bank in recent years, including journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, teenager Omar Mohammed Rabea, and Turkish-American activist Aysenur Ezgi Eygi.
