United States has suffered a "historic, disgraceful" defeat in the war with Iran and refuses to admit it, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) spokesman Hossein Mohebi said on Monday.
"The defeat of the United States and the Israeli regime is something that all informed military and political observers, even in the United States itself, acknowledge," Mohebi said in a statement carried out by local media. "They can see, touch, and feel this defeat with even the slightest attention."
Mohbi also challenged perceptions of U.S. military technology, arguing that American systems were unable to protect themselves, let alone U.S. allies.
"U.S. technologies are not even capable of defending themselves, let alone defending their allies," the IRGC spokesman claimed.
He argued that some had viewed the U.S. as possessing advanced offensive and defensive weapons technology that was difficult for other countries to obtain.
According to Mohbi, the conflict showed that those technologies were vulnerable when confronted with Iran’s offensive and defensive capabilities.
"This issue had a message for two groups," he said, pointing first to U.S. rivals and then to its allies. "For one, U.S. rivals realized that American technology is accessible," Mohbi said. "For two, U.S. allies also understood that this technology is not capable of defending itself, let alone defending its allies."
Mohebi's remarks came after the IRGC claimed it had shot down a U.S.-made MQ-1 unmanned aerial vehicle over the Strait of Hormuz. The force said in a written statement that its air defense system had detected and struck the drone over the strategic waterway.
With the June memorandum of understanding no longer holding, Washington-Tehran diplomacy remains stalled. Despite a reduction in the frequency of attacks in recent weeks, both sides continue to exchange fire around the Strait of Hormuz, a key shipping corridor.
Qatar's Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed al-Ansari said Sunday that Qatar's mediation team had been discussing proposals for nearly two weeks to resume talks between the United States and Iran.
