Yemen’s Houthis threaten direct military intervention if the Red Sea is used to launch “hostile operations” by the United States or Israel against Iran or any Muslim country.

It is widely expected that the Houthis could attempt to shut down the Bab al-Mandab Strait if they enter the war on Iran’s side, adding pressure on global trade routes already strained by the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

US-Israel actions as region-wide threat

The warning came in a video statement released by Houthi military spokesperson Yahya, who framed ongoing attacks across the region as part of a broader campaign targeting multiple countries.

Saree described recent U.S. and Israeli strikes targeting Iran, Palestine, Gaza, Iraq and Lebanon as a coordinated effort that threatens wider regional stability. He urged Washington and Tel Aviv to respond immediately to diplomatic efforts aimed at halting hostilities, saying continued attacks risk damaging global security and the world economy.

Saree said, "The United States, together with Israel, attacking Iran aims to leave the region entirely under Israeli control. This would mean the destruction of the freedom, independence, and dignity of the Islamic world."

Houthis threaten direct intervention

The spokesperson called for an immediate end to attacks on what he described as Muslim countries and demanded the implementation of agreements related to Gaza, including humanitarian provisions and recognition of Palestinian rights.

"If any alliance joins the U.S. or Israel in a war against Iran or uses the Red Sea, we will intervene directly," Saree said, adding that operations would be shaped by battlefield developments if attacks on Iran and allied groups continue.

The Houthis also warned against any steps that could tighten the blockade on Yemen, signaling that such actions could trigger further escalation. Saree added that their military operations target the United States and Israel, not civilian populations in Muslim countries.
