Antalya hosts 60 weightlifters from 6 countries ahead of major championships

Antalya’s Manavgat district is hosting an international weightlifting training camp featuring 60 athletes from six countries in preparation for upcoming major competitions, including the World Junior Championships and the Asian Championships in India.

The camp brings together national teams from Qatar, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Oman, Tunisia, and Jordan, all of whom are currently conducting intensive training sessions at a hotel facility in the district.

Elite athletes highlight training conditions in Türkiye

Among the participants are Olympic champions, including Qatar’s Fares Ibrahim El-Bakh and Uzbekistan’s Akbar Djuraev.

The athletes have highlighted the high quality of Türkiye’s sports infrastructure, stating that the facilities and training conditions in Antalya provide strong support for elite-level preparation.

Djuraev noted that he draws inspiration from legendary Turkish weightlifter Naim Suleymanoglu and expressed his ambition to achieve multiple Olympic titles in his career.

Coaches from participating nations also emphasized the professionalism of the facilities and the benefits of training alongside athletes from different countries.

Organizers stated that Antalya continues to establish itself as a key hub for sports tourism, hosting training camps throughout the year due to its favorable climate, hospitality, and well-developed infrastructure. It was also noted that approximately 23 international weightlifting teams conduct preparation camps in the region annually.
