Turkish international Arda Guler scored as Real Madrid secured a 4-1 victory over Germany's RB Leipzig at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday, maintaining their perfect start to the UEFA Champions League with three consecutive wins.
The Spanish giants took the lead through Bernardo Silva in the 44th minute before Guler doubled their advantage in the 52nd. Kylian Mbappe and Diomande added two late goals, while Gomis scored Leipzig's only goal.
Starting the match in Real Madrid's lineup, Guler played a part in both of his team's opening goals.
The first came shortly before halftime when Federico Valverde sent a cross into the penalty area from the right. Guler's initial effort was saved by the goalkeeper, but Bernardo Silva followed up on the rebound to put Madrid ahead.
Guler then got on the scoresheet seven minutes into the second half after Jude Bellingham delivered a cross from the left. Mbappe headed the ball toward goal at the far post, allowing the Turkish midfielder to tap it in from close range.
Guler remained on the pitch until the 78th minute, when Brahim Diaz came on as his replacement.
Real Madrid extended their lead through Mbappe in the 83rd minute before Leipzig briefly responded with a goal from Gomis two minutes later. Diomande completed the scoring in the 87th minute, sealing a comfortable home victory.
The result lifted Real Madrid to nine points from their opening three Champions League matches, while Leipzig remained on three points.
In the fourth round of fixtures, Real Madrid will travel to face AEK Athens, while Leipzig will host Manchester City.
Elsewhere in Wednesday's Champions League action, Galatasaray defeated Lille 4-2 away from home, Manchester United suffered a 4-1 defeat against Como, and Bayern Munich played out a 2-2 draw with Arsenal.
