Four-time Tour de France champion Chris Froome will join cycling enthusiasts in Istanbul on Sept. 20 as L’Etape Türkiye by Tour de France returns for its third edition, bringing together around 2,000 cyclists from nearly 50 countries.

Part of the official L’Etape Series connected to the Tour de France, the event will once again stand out for its course stretching across both Asia and Europe, offering cyclists a race experience across Istanbul's two continents.

Froome brings Grand Tour pedigree to Istanbul

Froome, who won the Tour de France general classification in 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2017, will meet cycling fans during the 2026 edition and take part in an event designed to bring the atmosphere of the Tour de France to Istanbul.

The British cyclist also won the Vuelta a Espana in 2017 and the Giro d'Italia in 2018, placing him among the select riders to have reached the top of all three Grand Tours.

Over the course of his career, Froome has stood out for his climbing performances, time-trial results and consistency, and his Istanbul appearance will bring one of the most prominent figures in modern road cycling together with riders taking on the city's cross-continental course.

Three routes open up different ways to experience the race

The 2026 event will feature three courses, led by a 101.59-kilometer-long route and a 49.83-kilometer short route.

A 31.4-kilometer Intercontinental Experience Route will also give participants another way to take in the event's defining feature: cycling between the Asian and European sides of Istanbul.

Top-performing riders will receive special trophies inspired by the Tour de France and produced in Konya, described by organizers as Europe's Cycling Capital.

The trophies bridge international cycling identity with Türkiye’s local manufacturing and organizational prowess.

Expo moves to Umraniye while race program stays unchanged

Organizers have also changed the location of the event's Expo area from Beykoz Spor Ormani to Umraniye Anadolu Millet Bahcesi.

The event will bring cycling enthusiasts together in Istanbul on Sept. 20, combining the race atmosphere associated with the Tour de France with a course stretching across two continents.
