Fenerbahce will take on Polish club Gornik Zabrze in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League after the draw in Nyon, Switzerland, on Wednesday.
The Yellow Canaries entered the draw as a seeded team on the league path and were paired with Gornik Zabrze, which, like Fenerbahce, finished second in its domestic league during the 2025-26 season to earn a place in the qualifying rounds of Europe's top club competition.
The yellow-navy blue team will host the first leg before traveling to Poland for the return match. The first games of the round are scheduled for July 21-22, with the second legs set for July 28-29.
Fenerbahce is one of Türkiye's most experienced clubs in European competition and has been a regular participant in UEFA tournaments over the past two decades.
The Yellow Canaries reached the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League in the 2007-08 season, their best-ever performance in the competition, before being eliminated by Chelsea.
The Istanbul-based side has also enjoyed notable runs in other European tournaments, reaching the semifinals of the UEFA Europa League in 2012-13 and the quarterfinals of the UEFA Europa Conference League in 2023-24.
After competing in the UEFA Europa League league phase last season, the yellow-navy blue outfit returns to the Champions League qualifiers following a second-place finish in the Super Lig, seeking a place in Europe's premier club competition for the first time since the 2008-09 season.
Over the past two seasons, Fenerbahce has come up short in its attempts to reach the UEFA Champions League league phase, falling to France's Lille in the third qualifying round in 2024 and to Portugal's Benfica in the playoff round in 2025.
Although Gornik Zabrze boasts a distinguished European pedigree, highlighted by a run to the 1970 European Cup Winners' Cup final and a European Cup quarterfinal appearance two years earlier, the Polish club has made only sporadic appearances in continental competition over the past three decades.
The 14-time Polish champion last featured in Europe's premier club tournament in the 1988-89 European Cup, the predecessor to the UEFA Champions League, where it reached the second round before being eliminated by Real Madrid.
More recently, the Polish side returned to European action in the 2018-19 UEFA Europa League qualifiers, advancing to the second qualifying round before bowing out to Slovakia's Trencin.
The draw at UEFA headquarters in Nyon also determined the remaining matchups in the second qualifying round. On the League Path, Fenerbahce's meeting with Gornik Zabrze is accompanied by a tie between Austria's Sturm Graz and Scotland's Hearts.
The Champions Path features several pairings, including Aarhus against Polish champion Lech Poznan, Thun versus Dinamo Zagreb, and Omonoia taking on either Kairat or the winner of the first-round matchup between Sutjeska-Niksic and Kairat.
Other clubs involved in the draw include Red Star Belgrade, Slovan Bratislava, Celje, Hapoel Beer-Sheva, Vardar and Shamrock Rovers, with a number of fixtures still awaiting the outcome of first qualifying-round ties.
Teams advancing from the second qualifying round will move a step closer to securing a place in the Champions League league phase.
