Fenerbahce head coach Ismail Kartal has drawn up a special program for Romelu Lukaku during the international break as the Turkish club looks to get its summer signing physically sharper and more involved in attack after the Belgian striker failed to register a goal contribution so far this season.
Lukaku joined Fenerbahce from Napoli in the summer transfer window, but has yet to make a direct scoring contribution in the yellow-and-navy shirt.
Rather than focusing only on his physical condition, Kartal and his coaching staff are also working out how the striker can be used more effectively within the team's attacking structure.
Fenerbahce want Lukaku to return from the international break in stronger physical condition, while Kartal is also considering which position and system could bring the most out of the experienced forward.
The coaching staff are looking into whether Lukaku could be more effective operating as a lone striker or alongside another attacking player. Their plans also involve getting the Belgian on the ball more frequently inside the penalty area and making greater use of his physical strength.
Kartal is not expected to rush the process and continues to have confidence in Lukaku's quality, believing the striker can make an important contribution to the team.
The special program prepared for the international break is intended to raise Lukaku's physical level, improve his understanding with his teammates and further clarify his role in Fenerbahce's attack.
The club expects Lukaku to come back from the break in better condition and play a more effective role in the team's forward line.
