Turkish powerhouse Fenerbahce mounted a strong second-half comeback to beat Caykur Rizespor 5–2 in the 13th round of the Turkish Super Lig on Sunday, narrowing the gap with league leader Galatasaray to a single point.
The Istanbul side’s away victory raised its tally to 31 points, placing it just behind its archrival ahead of a crucial derby fixture next week.
Trailing 2–0, Fenerbahce began its resurgence in the 55th minute. Fred’s long-range strike was mishandled by goalkeeper Fofana, allowing Asensio to convert the rebound and reduce the deficit.
Three minutes later, Fenerbahce leveled the match. Nene’s cross from the left found Talisca in the box, who scored with a header to make it 2–2.
Rizespor came close to retaking the lead immediately, but Sowe’s shot hit the post in the 59th minute and bounced back into play.
Momentum shifted decisively in the 63rd minute when Rizespor’s Laci was shown a second yellow card following a foul on Kerem Akturkoglu, reducing the home team to 10 players.
Just two minutes later, Akturkoglu sent in a cross that Jhon Duran headed down to Asensio, who scored his second goal of the night to give Fenerbahce a 3–2 lead.
Fenerbahce continued to press and widened the gap in the 78th minute. Nene delivered a low ball from the left that reached En-Nesyri, who placed his shot into the net for a 4–2 advantage.
In the 88th minute, Brown added a fifth. Played through by Asensio on the left wing, he finished with composure to seal the match at 5–2.
