Galatasaray Sunday defeated Kayserispor 4-0 on the road in the third week of the Turkish Super Lig extending its perfect start to three wins in three matches.
The first half at RHG Enerturk Enerji Stadium was balanced. Kayserispor sought opportunities from set pieces and counterattacks, while Galatasaray controlled possession in the opponent’s half. The opening goal came in the 36th minute when Eren Elmali scored, giving the visiting team a 1-0 lead at halftime.
Galatasaray started the second half strong as Eren added a header in the 46th minute to make it 2-0. Despite conceding chances, Galatasaray kept a clean sheet and sealed the victory with goals from Victor Osimhen in the 86th minute and Leroy Sane in stoppage time at 90+3, finishing 4-0.
With three straight wins, Galatasaray has 9 points. Kayserispor, with one match in hand, suffered its first defeat and remains at 1 point.
Eren Elmali scored in the 36th and 46th minutes, marking his third goal of the season after scoring in the opening-week win against Gaziantep FK. His second-half header was his first career header goal.
Victor Osimhen scored his first goal of the season in the 86th minute. The Nigerian striker, who led the league last season with 26 goals while on loan at Galatasaray, was transferred permanently for a record fee.
German winger Leroy Sane, a new addition to the squad, scored from outside the penalty area in stoppage time. The 29-year-old scored in his third official match for the team.
Italian midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo assisted Osimhen’s 86th-minute goal seven minutes after replacing Yunus Akgun in the 79th minute. Zaniolo spent the last two seasons on loan in England and Italy without notable impact.
Lucas Torreira tested Kayserispor goalkeeper Bilal Bayazit in the 9th minute, striking the post from around 25 meters. Galatasaray goalkeeper Gunay Guvenc made crucial saves, including a stop on Laszlo Benes’s free kick in the 43rd minute. Guvenc has kept a clean sheet in his last six Turkish Super Lig matches and in all three matches this season.
A brief tension between Osimhen and Yunus Akgun in the 74th minute was resolved after the match. The two players shook hands and acknowledged fans together at full time.
Galatasaray is one goal away from its 4,000th league goal in its 68th season, having scored 3,999 in 2,235 matches. The team has scored 10 goals in its first three matches this season while maintaining clean sheets.
