Foreigners living in Türkiye or visiting the country during the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be able to follow the tournament on Turkish television through TRT 1 and TRT Spor, the public broadcaster’s main TV channels for major sports events.

Türkiye’s national football team will also compete in the World Cup, making the tournament one of the most closely followed events of the summer in the country.

TRT, Türkiye’s public broadcaster and the local rights holder for the tournament, has announced that matches will be shown free-to-air on TRT 1 and TRT Spor. This means viewers in Türkiye will not need a paid sports subscription to watch the games on television.

Satellite viewers may need to update TRT settings

TRT has warned viewers that they should check their satellite receiver settings to avoid interruptions during match broadcasts.

This is especially important for people watching TV through satellite dishes in homes, hotels, rental apartments or summer houses. If the receiver is not updated, viewers may see a “no signal” message when trying to open TRT 1.

According to TRT, viewers who previously updated their devices for TRT’s international sports broadcasts do not need to make any changes again.

What to do if TRT 1 shows 'no signal'

Foreign residents who see a “no signal” warning on TRT 1 can first try updating TKGS, the automatic satellite channel update system used on many receivers connected to Türkiye’s Türksat satellite network.

To do this, viewers can open the TV or satellite receiver menu, go to the settings or installation section, and run a TKGS update. On some devices, this option may appear under names such as “channel update,” “satellite update,” or “installation.”

If the problem continues, viewers can manually enter TRT’s updated satellite frequency details through the “TP Add,” “Transponder Add,” or “Manual Channel Search” section.

TRT frequency details for World Cup broadcasts

TRT’s frequency information for World Cup broadcasts is as follows:

Satellite: Türksat 4A
Frequency: 11794
Polarization: V, vertical
Symbol rate: 30000
FEC: 3/4

TRT 1 HD frequency details are:

Satellite: Türksat 4A
Frequency: 11958
Polarization: V, vertical
Symbol rate: 27500
FEC: 5/6

After entering the information, viewers should start a channel scan. Newly added channels may appear at the end of the channel list.

Matches on Tabii

TRT broadcasts are also available through Tabii, the broadcaster’s digital platform. Viewers in Türkiye can use the platform on supported devices and smart TVs.

For foreign residents and tourists, the easiest way to follow the World Cup on Turkish TV will be to check whether TRT 1 and TRT Spor are already available on the television before the first match. If the channels do not open, updating the satellite settings may solve the issue.
