Türkiye defeated host Latvia 93-73 in the opening match of Group A at the 2025 European Basketball Championship (EuroBasket 2025) on Wednesday.
The Turkish National Men’s Basketball Team started strong, pressuring Latvia on outside shots and scoring under the basket to build a double-digit lead by the fourth minute at 3-13.
Latvia rallied after a timeout, but Türkiye continued scoring from free throws and beyond the arc, extending the lead to 14 by the eighth minute at 10-24. Latvia later went on an 11-0 run, cutting the deficit to three points, but Türkiye ended the first quarter ahead 24-21.
In the second quarter, both teams made five three-pointers, yet Türkiye maintained its advantage and went into halftime leading 47-39.
Türkiye established a significant edge in the third quarter, scoring consecutive points from outside shots and controlling the tempo to lead 72-55 heading into the final period.
The Turkish team played comfortably in the fourth quarter to secure a 93-73 victory.
With 15 successful three-pointers against Latvia, Türkiye set a national record for the most three-pointers scored in a EuroBasket match.
Türkiye will face the Czech Republic in its second Group A match on Friday, Aug. 29.
