Turkish chess grandmaster Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus won a silver medal at the 46th FIDE Chess Olympiad in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, after finishing second on the top board while staying unbeaten throughout the competition.
The 15-year-old also came away from the Olympiad with a historic individual milestone, raising his ELO rating to 2,731 and setting the highest rating ever achieved by a player at the age of 15, according to the Turkish Chess Federation.
ELO is the international rating system used to measure the relative playing strength of chess competitors.
Erdogmus went unbeaten in 10 games in the Olympiad's open section, scoring eight points to win individual silver on Board 1, where each team fields its top player.
In the final round, he came up against world No. 3 Fabiano Caruana and held the American grandmaster to a draw, closing out his Olympiad campaign unbeaten.
Türkiye's open team also included grandmasters Ediz Gurel, Isik Can, Vahap Sanal and Emre Can. The team finished the tournament in 13th place, while Türkiye's women's national team ended the Olympiad in 11th.

Erdogmus' performance in Samarkand lifted his ELO rating to 2,731, taking him past the previous record for the highest rating reached by a 15-year-old.
That mark had belonged to Chinese grandmaster Wei Yi, who reached 2,721 in 2015.
With his unbeaten Olympiad performance and new rating, Erdogmus finished the competition with both a Board 1 silver medal and a new age-based benchmark in chess history.
