Turkish national tennis player Zeynep Sonmez has been knocked out of the Miami Open, bowing out in the second round after losing in straight sets to Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic.

The match, which was repeatedly disrupted by rain delays, lasted 1 hour and nine minutes in total. Despite the stop-start conditions, Bencic managed to maintain control throughout the encounter, closing it out in two sets.

Straight-sets loss ends Sonmez’s run

Ranked 83rd in the world, Sonmez struggled to build momentum against her opponent and ultimately lost 6-3, 6-2.

The scoreline reflected Bencic’s steady performance across both sets, as she wrapped up the match without dropping a set.

Although reaching the second round marked progress in the tournament, Sonmez was unable to move further ahead in the draw. Her campaign at the Miami Open, therefore, came to an end at this stage following the defeat.
