A mass shooting at a child’s birthday party in Stockton, California, left four people dead and ten others injured Saturday evening, in what police have described as a "targeted incident."
According to a statement from the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred shortly before 6:00 p.m. near the 1900 block of Lucile Avenue in Stockton, a city located in northern California’s Central Valley.
Police confirmed that approximately 14 individuals were struck by gunfire, and four victims were pronounced dead at the scene or shortly thereafter.
Authorities have yet to identify a suspect or release specific information about those involved. The sheriff’s office stated on social media platform X that the investigation is "very active" and that detectives are working to determine the events that led to the shooting. Initial findings suggest the act may have been premeditated.
"Early indications suggest this may be a targeted incident, and investigators are exploring all possibilities," the statement read. The area remains cordoned off as law enforcement processes the scene and interviews potential witnesses.

Stockton Vice Mayor Jason Lee confirmed the shooting took place at a child’s birthday party and expressed grief over the loss of life in a post on Facebook.
“As vice mayor of Stockton—and as someone who grew up in this community—I am devastated and angry to learn about the mass shooting at a child’s birthday party,” he wrote, adding that he had been in contact with public safety officials and was committed to seeking answers.
The motive and the identities of the victims have not yet been disclosed, and no arrests have been made as of the latest update. Law enforcement officials continue to urge the public to come forward with any information that may assist the investigation.
Authorities have not confirmed whether children were among the deceased or injured.
