Israel denies allegations of Raisi’s death
Amid speculations of assassination, Israel, which has recently experienced tensions with Iran, has refuted any connection to the incident
Israel denies involvement in the death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, who reportedly died in a helicopter crash in East Azerbaijan province on May 19.
The charred wreckage of the helicopter, carrying Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and six other passengers and crew members, was found early Monday after an overnight search in blizzard conditions.
Amid speculations of assassination, Israel, which has recently experienced tensions with Iran, has refuted any connection to the incident.
An Israeli official, speaking anonymously to Reuters, stated: “It wasn’t us.” Meanwhile, Israeli opposition lawmaker Avigdor Liberman commented: “There was no doubt he was a ruthless man. We will not shed a tear.”
Contrarily, former Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif attributed the accident to the U.S.
“The United States is responsible for the helicopter crash of President Ibrahim Raisi. Despite the ruling of the International Court of Justice, the U.S. had blocked the sale of aircraft parts to Iran,” Zarif added.
