Hundreds of people marched in front of the buildings of Artificial Intelligence (AI) companies like Google, OpenAI, and Anthropic in San Francisco to protest on Saturday.

Their demand was for companies to slow the AI race and prioritize safety over speed.

Over the past few years, AI technologies have progressed at a much faster pace with every update.

New applications are emerging in every field, from AI influencers to missile targeting systems.

The ongoing situation makes people worried about the future. The protesters’ posters show that they want to draw a border to AI instead of watching it expand limitlessly.

They stated that throughout the whole AI process, the public should be involved to make it more beneficial for humanity instead of being profit-driven.

The march, attended by many students and former AI employees, aims to raise public awareness and, in doing so, put pressure on senators and AI companies.

The march was organized by Stop the AI Race, led by activist and former AI researcher Michaël Trazzi.

Last year, he started a hunger strike outside Google DeepMind in London to draw attention to the demand to freeze AI development.

The organization is calling not only on US firms but also on AI firms in China and Europe to halt further development.

The aim is to ensure that current models remain in use and are made beneficial to society while preventing the release of new models.
