Russian authorities said early Friday that 51 drones were shot down over the Leningrad region in an overnight attack near Ust-Luga, a key oil export hub.
Leningrad Governor Alexander Drozdenko said on Telegram that authorities had initially announced a drone threat across the region as air defense operations got underway.
He later said 15 “enemy” drones had been downed, with the number subsequently rising to 37 as operations continued.
In a further update, Drozdenko said a total of 51 drones had been shot down over the Leningrad region.
“As a result of the damage, a fire was recorded in the port of Ust-Luga,” he said.
“Experts began extinguishing the fire. The fighting continues,” he added.
The governor later announced that the drone threat had been eliminated.
Meanwhile, Ukraine said Thursday that the Russian army had carried out a second drone attack during the day on a passenger train traveling in the Odesa region, injuring a child.
According to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service, Russian troops struck a passenger train in the Berezivka district.
The attack caused a fire in the locomotive and nearby dry grass, the service said.
Fire crews who responded to the scene extinguished the blaze.
The service said 525 people, including 130 children, were evacuated through coordinated efforts by emergency teams and relevant institutions.
It said 17 buses were allocated to transport passengers after the attack.
