U.S. President Donald Trump will visit Saudi Arabia and Qatar from May 11 to 14 as part of a regional tour aimed at strengthening strategic ties with Gulf partners, the U.S. State Department announced Sunday.
Rubio will accompany the President during this tour, which the State Department says will focus on deepening economic and security cooperation. “The President will look to strengthen ties between the United States and Gulf partners,” the Department said in a statement.
Secretary Rubio’s meetings with senior officials in the region are expected to “advance solutions to global and regional challenges, expand bilateral trade and investment, and reaffirm our strategic partnerships.”
Following the Gulf tour, Secretary Rubio will travel to Antalya, Türkiye, from May 14 to 16 to attend the NATO Informal Foreign Ministers Meeting. According to the State Department, the session will “discuss security priorities for the Alliance, including increased Allied defense investment and ending the Russia-Ukraine war.”
The Antalya meeting will also serve as a preparatory step for the NATO Summit in The Hague this June. In that context, Rubio is expected to “advance President Trump’s agenda of ensuring that our Allies contribute their fair share to making NATO stronger and more effective.”
The gathering comes at a time of heightened geopolitical tensions, with Washington placing renewed emphasis on transatlantic cooperation and alliance solidarity in the face of evolving security threats.
