Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Tuesday that a trilateral meeting between Ukraine, Russia and the U.S. could take place as early as September if all sides agree.

“If all sides agree, we also want to hold it in autumn. If September works out, then it would be great. The earlier, the better,” Zelenskyy told reporters.

His remarks followed weekend talks in Moscow and Kyiv involving U.S. negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, who met separately with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Zelenskyy as Washington seeks to revive efforts to end the four-and-a-half-year war.

Kyiv prepares next steps after weekend talks

Zelenskyy said Monday that he and Ukraine’s negotiating team were coordinating their “next steps” after discussions with U.S. and European officials.

“I had a meeting with the Ukrainian negotiating team following our talks ... We are coordinating our next steps. We are preparing the next meetings and communications,” he wrote on Facebook.

A senior Ukrainian presidential source told Agence France-Presse (AFP) that Witkoff and Kushner brought “more effective” proposals for ending the conflict.

No breakthrough announced

Neither Moscow nor Kyiv announced a breakthrough following the weekend meetings.

Zelenskyy said Ukraine would prefer to hold the trilateral talks as soon as possible, with September seen as a potential window if all sides agree.
