Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" has crossed $1.1 billion at the global box office, becoming the highest-grossing film of the director's career after overtaking his 2012 blockbuster "The Dark Knight Rises."
The adaptation of Homer's ancient epic poem reached $1.1 billion worldwide through its fourth weekend in theaters, according to industry box-office data.
Released on July 17, the film follows "Odysseus," the legendary king of Ithaca, as he makes his long journey home following the Trojan War.
Matt Damon leads the cast as "Odysseus," alongside Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Tom Holland, Lupita Nyong'o and Charlize Theron.
The latest result pushes "The Odyssey" past "The Dark Knight Rises," which had remained Nolan's biggest worldwide release with about $1.08 billion since 2012.
It also puts the film ahead of The Dark Knight, which brought in about $1 billion globally, and Oppenheimer, which finished its theatrical run with $975 million.
With the new milestone, "The Odyssey" has become Nolan's third film to cross the $1 billion mark worldwide, following "The Dark Knight" and "The Dark Knight Rises."
Premium-format screenings have also played a major role in the film's box-office run, with Comscore data showing particularly strong results from IMAX 70mm presentations.
IMAX said "The Odyssey" had generated more than $289 million worldwide through the format, making it the highest-grossing IMAX release of all time.
The film has also become the fifth movie released in 2026 to pass $1 billion globally, joining "Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Toy Story 5, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and Michael."
