Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez sent a signed thank-you letter to a high school in central Türkiye after its students mailed him a copy of their literary magazine and invited him to visit their school.
Teachers and students at Mustafa Ozkan Anatolian High School in the Incesu district of Kayseri sent Sanchez an issue of their school publication, "Kivilcim," in June 2026. The magazine includes poetry, essays and other literary writing produced by the school community.
After receiving the publication, Sanchez wrote back to the school personally, thanking the students and teachers for the magazine while explaining that his institutional commitments and busy schedule made it difficult for him to take up their invitation.
In his letter, Sanchez said he had received the magazine with "great interest and appreciation" and particularly valued the school's messages of support and recognition.
He also highlighted what he described as the school community's sensitivity toward international and humanitarian issues, saying that such commitment and openness to dialogue provide an important foundation for understanding between societies.
Sanchez additionally thanked the school for its invitation and conveyed his recognition of its work in support of education and values of coexistence.
School Principal Fatih Sahin said the magazine was initially put together as part of efforts to broaden students' horizons, with contributions ranging from poetry and essays to pieces about the school itself.
Sahin said the school decided to send the magazine to Sanchez after following him through the media and mailed it through regular post, also extending an invitation for him to visit.
According to Sahin, the signed response came as a surprise and delighted both students and staff.
Sahin also pointed to Sanchez's support for the Palestinian issue, saying this had been meaningful to him personally.
The school has since set up a special corner displaying the prime minister's letter, allowing students, staff and visitors to read the response.
