Turkish YouTuber and documentary creator Ruhi Cenet has confirmed that his medical test results for hantavirus came back negative after returning from the MV Hondius expedition cruise, which has been linked to a suspected outbreak that drew international attention.
In a statement shared on social media, Cenet said that tests conducted by Türkiye’s Ministry of Health, including blood, urine, and saliva analyses, showed no signs of infection. He added that he has not experienced any symptoms and has remained in contact with health authorities since returning to Türkiye.
The announcement follows public scrutiny surrounding passengers aboard the MV Hondius, a research and expedition vessel carrying over 150 people from 23 countries.
The ship became the focus of health investigations after reports of a hantavirus outbreak that reportedly resulted in multiple fatalities during the voyage.
Cenet underwent medical screening upon his return and followed precautionary monitoring procedures.
According to his statement, Cenet left the vessel roughly 24 days into the expedition, which was part of a documentary project covering remote regions, including Tristan da Cunha. He said he first became aware of the suspected outbreak after leaving the ship through a message from a fellow passenger.
He also clarified that he attended a social event in Türkiye after his return, stating that it took place before the outbreak risk was publicly known and before he had been informed of any health concerns.
Cenet has faced criticism online regarding his post-travel activities. He rejected claims that he disregarded health warnings and stated that he followed all recommended precautions once the situation became clear. He also denied circulating claims suggesting he had warned of an imminent pandemic.
