President Recep Tayyip Erdogan welcomed the peace agreement reached between the United States and Iran on Monday, describing it as an important development for regional peace and stability while urging all parties to avoid actions that could jeopardize the process before it is formally signed.

In a statement shared on X, Erdogan said he viewed the agreement positively and hoped it would help build a lasting environment of peace and security across the region. "I welcome the agreement reached between the United States and Iran and see it as an important development for ensuring peace and tranquility in our region," Erdogan stated.

The Turkish president also called for restraint during the period leading up to the official signing ceremony. "I would like to emphasize the importance of refraining from rhetoric, provocations and actions that could escalate tensions, and of remaining vigilant against possible acts of sabotage until the day the signatures are affixed," he noted.

Türkiye calls for responsible action

Erdogan thanked both Washington and Tehran for their roles in reaching the accord and singled out Pakistan for exceptional mediation efforts. He also praised diplomatic support provided by Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

Türkiye, he added, will continue supporting initiatives aimed at strengthening peace, stability and prosperity through diplomacy and international law.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan also welcomed the agreement, expressing hope that follow-up negotiations would continue constructively.

"As Türkiye, under the leadership of our President, we have provided significant support and effort toward this process from the outset," Fidan wrote on X. "Our support for establishing peace, calm and stability in our region will continue uninterrupted."

Geneva signing to cap months of conflict

The comments came after Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that the U.S. and Iran had reached a peace agreement following intensive negotiations.

Sharif stated that both sides agreed to an immediate and permanent end to military operations across all fronts, including in Lebanon, and said the official signing ceremony is scheduled for June 19 in Switzerland.

The announcement followed remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump, who declared Sunday that an agreement with Iran had been finalized.

"The Deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete. Congratulations to all!" Trump wrote on Truth Social. He also authorized the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and ordered the removal of a U.S. naval blockade, signaling the resumption of maritime traffic and energy shipments through the strategic waterway.

The peace deal comes after more than three months of conflict that began when the U.S. and Israel carried out strikes against Iranian nuclear facilities, military installations and government targets in late February. Iran retaliated with waves of missile and drone attacks against U.S. forces and regional allies, while clashes expanded beyond Iran's borders into Lebanon and surrounding areas.
