A widening drug-related investigation in Istanbul has brought actress Hande Ercel and businessman Hakan Sabanci into focus, alongside a new detention decision involving several well-known public figures.

Prosecutors in Istanbul are continuing to look into a broad case that covers allegations ranging from drug production and trafficking to encouraging prostitution, according to the information provided.

The latest development in the investigation centers on a detention order issued for several high-profile names, while former Besiktas chairman and businessman Fikret Orman was taken into custody by teams from Istanbul's narcotics police unit.

In the same investigation, detention orders were also reportedly issued for former Galatasaray chairman Burak Elmas, businessmen Hakan Sabanci and Kerim Sabanci, actress Hande Ercel, and models Didem Soydan and Guzide Duran.

With Hande Ercel and Hakan Sabanci standing out among the most recognizable figures on the list, the case has drawn fresh attention as the probe moves forward.

Broad probe brings together several criminal allegations

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office is carrying on with investigations tied to several accusations.

These include the production and trafficking of drugs; providing special places, equipment, or materials to make drug use easier; and taking steps to make it harder to catch users, as well as buying, accepting, or possessing drugs for personal use; using drugs; and encouraging or mediating prostitution.

As the investigation unfolds, authorities are handling the case as part of a broader prosecutorial process led by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, while the names linked to the latest detention decisions continue to stand out because of their public profiles.
