Iran released a rare video of Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei after reports suggested he was in critical condition, marking his first reported appearance since being selected to the post in early March.

The footage aired by the semi-official Mehr News Agency showed Mojtaba surrounded by several people and apparently speaking to them.

Mehr did not specify when or where the video was recorded and did not identify the people accompanying him.

The agency reported Sunday that Mojtaba met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, who is beginning his third year in office.

Their meeting focused on challenges facing Iran, including public livelihood needs, the military conflict with the U.S., and economic interaction with foreign partners, according to Mehr.

Mojtaba Khamenei selected after father's death

Mojtaba was selected as Iran's supreme leader in early March after his father, Ali Khamenei, was killed in a U.S.-Israeli airstrike on Feb. 28.

He had not been seen in public since his selection.

Iran and the U.S. agreed to a ceasefire in April and later signed a memorandum of understanding in June aimed at ending their military conflict and reaching a lasting peace agreement.

The agreement collapsed last month, with Tehran and Washington exchanging attacks for nearly two weeks before U.S. President Donald Trump abruptly halted the bombardment amid reports of talks aimed at resolving the conflict.
