Former Türkiye national football team coach Vincenzo Montella has waived €330,000 (over $371,000) owed to him by his former club Adana Demirspor, easing the financial burden on the Turkish football side and removing the risk of a potential dispute with FIFA.
The Italian coach's decision was announced during a meeting at Adana Demirspor's training facilities, attended by Turkish Football Federation (TFF) board member Hasan Surozu and club President Ertan Zeybek.
Montella, who previously managed Adana Demirspor before taking charge of Türkiye's national team, agreed to give up the outstanding payment as the club continues working to reduce its financial liabilities.
Zeybek said the unpaid amount could have led to a formal dispute before FIFA, football's international governing body, potentially exposing Adana Demirspor to disciplinary measures, including points deductions.
He explained that Montella's decision had removed a significant financial obligation and eliminated one potential source of sporting sanctions.
Surozu also welcomed the move, emphasizing the relationship between the Italian coach and the club where he worked before moving into international management.
"Adana benefited from Montella, and Montella benefited from Adana," Surozu said, describing the decision as a gesture of friendship and appreciation.
Beyond Montella's decision, Zeybek outlined the club's efforts to settle outstanding financial obligations over the past 10 months.
According to the club president, Adana Demirspor has closed nine debt cases totaling approximately €3.5 million through payments amounting to around €347,000.
Zeybek also called on former club presidents, prominent local figures and business leaders to come together and support Adana Demirspor as it continues addressing its financial difficulties.
