Fenerbahce are preparing to bring in Mason Greenwood from Marseille in a deal that would make the 24-year-old the most expensive signing in the club's history.

The English forward is expected to arrive in Istanbul shortly and go through medical examinations before putting pen to paper on a contract reportedly running until June 2030.

An official announcement is expected after the medical and registration procedures are wrapped up.

Reports put transfer package above €40 million

Reports differ slightly over the final structure of the agreement. Fabrizio Romano reported that Fenerbahce would pay Marseille a fixed transfer fee of €40 million ($46.6 million), along with a further €2 million in performance-related bonuses.

Sabah, meanwhile, reported that the clubs had settled on a guaranteed fee of €39.5 million, with an additional €5 million linked to Fenerbahce winning the championship.

Greenwood is expected to earn an annual net salary of around €10 million under the proposed contract.

According to The Athletic, Marseille would receive €24 million from the reported €40 million fixed payment, while Manchester United would collect €12.8 million and Getafe would receive €3.2 million.

Manchester United had included a future-sale clause when Greenwood moved to Marseille for €26 million in July 2024. The English club has also reportedly sent the necessary paperwork confirming that it will not exercise its right to step back in and match the offer.

Deal set to rewrite Fenerbahce's transfer record

Should the move go through, Greenwood would overtake Matteo Guendouzi as Fenerbahce's most expensive signing. The Istanbul club had previously paid €28 million for the French midfielder.

Greenwood would also become the second-most expensive incoming transfer in the history of Turkish football. The record belongs to Victor Osimhen, who joined Galatasaray from Napoli for €75 million.

Fenerbahce officials Oguz Cetin and Cihan Kamer reportedly flew to Marseille to close out the remaining details after the clubs reached an agreement. Greenwood, who also drew interest from clubs in Italy, Spain and Saudi Arabia, is expected to fly into Istanbul on a private aircraft before undergoing his medical checks.

Greenwood arrives after prolific Marseille spell

Greenwood has stood out as one of Marseille's leading attacking players since moving to France. He scored 26 goals across all competitions last season, including 16 in Ligue 1, where he finished second in the scoring race.

The versatile forward, who can play on the right wing, as a center forward, or behind the main striker, has recorded 48 goals in 76 appearances during his Marseille career.

Greenwood came through Manchester United's academy and went on to make 129 senior appearances for the club, contributing 35 goals and 12 assists. He made his senior England debut at the age of 18 in September 2020 but has not played for the national team since.
