Galatasaray's 27-year-old star Victor Osimhen continues to attract interest from English clubs ahead of the summer transfer window, with the latest call coming from former Manchester United player Nicky Butt, who urged the English side to pursue the Nigerian striker to strengthen its attack.
Butt argued that the club should prioritize a move for Osimhen, describing the Nigerian striker as the right fit for the team’s long-term needs.
Speaking about United’s recruitment strategy, Butt asserted Osimhen stands out not only for his ability but also for his availability compared to higher-priced alternatives.
"I think he’d be the one," he said. "You’d like to think that players from Turkish sides are gettable."
Butt indicated that Osimhen offers a complete attacking profile, pointing to his physical strength, pace, and versatility in front of goal.
"You’re wasting time on certain players that you’re not going to get if they cost £120 million ($158.8 million). I think he’s powerful and quick; he can run in behind; he’s strong; he's got a good touch and can score different types of goals; he’s good in the air."
Manchester United is preparing for a summer rebuild that could include up to four major signings, with the club aiming to strengthen multiple areas as it pushes toward consistent Champions League qualification.
The call to pursue Osimhen comes as questions grow around Benjamin Sesko’s role as United’s main striker.
The Slovenian forward, who joined from RB Leipzig last summer, has shown improvement and contributed goals in recent months.
However, Butt suggested the club risks repeating past mistakes by relying heavily on young forwards to lead the line in high-pressure competitions, instead of securing an experienced striker capable of delivering immediate results.
Osimhen joined Galatasaray on a permanent move from Italian club Napoli after spending a year on loan at the Istanbul side, with a €75 million ($86.11 million) transfer fee.
The Nigerian striker has made 29 appearances so far this season, scoring 29 goals, including 7 in 10 UEFA Champions League matches, and providing 7 assists.
His strong performances have reportedly attracted interest from European giants including Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, and English side Liverpool.
Earlier, Turkish media reported that the club is unwilling to let him leave and expects a transfer fee of up to €140 million.
In addition to his transfer fee, Osimhen earns €18.75 million per season at the Istanbul club. According to Transfermarkt, he has a market value of €75 million, and his contract runs until July 2029.
