Last season's UEFA Champions League winners, French club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), defeated Turkish star Arda Guler's Real Madrid 4-0 on Wednesday in the FIFA Club World Cup semi-finals.
Luis Enrique's team will face England's Chelsea in the final showdown on July 13 at MetLife Stadium in New York.
PSG opened the scoring when Dembele capitalized on a defensive error, and Ruiz converted the rebound after Thibaut Courtois’ initial save. Minutes later, Dembele netted the second following another Real Madrid mistake, effectively sealing the match within the first 10 minutes.
Before halftime, Ruiz added his second, capping a well-executed move involving Achraf Hakimi. Real Madrid’s forwards, including Vinicius Junior and Gonzalo Garcia, were unable to break through PSG’s defense.
20-year-old Turkish international Arda Guler started for Real Madrid and was substituted in the 83rd minute, making way for Lucas Vazquez.
Goncalo Ramos closed the scoring in the 87th minute, turning inside the box and finishing past Courtois after receiving a pass from substitute Bradley Barcola.
Real Madrid had entered the match hoping to add the inaugural 32-team Club World Cup title to their record 15 European Cups. However, under new head coach Xabi Alonso, the team looked disjointed and failed to respond to PSG’s pace and structure.
The return of Mbappe, who missed the group stage due to illness, provided little boost. His deflected shot midway through the first half was one of few chances, as PSG’s dominance left Madrid unable to mount a comeback.
PSG, who won their first UEFA Champions League title in May and defeated Inter Milan 5-0 in the final, now stand one win away from adding another major trophy.
