The Turkish Men’s National Basketball Team, famously known as the “12 Giant Men,” is set to face Sweden in the Round of 16 at EuroBasket 2025.
Following an undefeated run in the group stage, Türkiye will take on Sweden on Saturday, September 6, at 12:00 (GMT +3) at Arena Riga in Latvia.
Under the guidance of head coach Ergin Ataman, Türkiye dominated Group A, securing victories in all five matches against Serbia, Latvia, Portugal, Estonia, and the Czechia. The standout performance came against Serbia, where Türkiye triumphed 95–90, powered by Alperen Sengun’s 28 points, 13 rebounds, and 8 assists. That match quickly became one of the most talked-about games of the tournament.
Sweden competed in Group B alongside Germany, Lithuania, Finland, Montenegro, and Great Britain, finishing fourth with only one victory. While technically capable, their inconsistent form in the group stage may give Türkiye an edge heading into the knockout round.
Türkiye will rely on Sengun’s playmaking from the center position, captain Cedi Osman's and Shane Larkin’s tempo control and outside shooting, team defensive intensity, and efficiency in transition. Sweden’s success will depend on their outside shooting percentage and rebound resilience.
A victory over Sweden would set Türkiye up to face the winner of the Poland vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina matchup in the quarterfinals. Each game in this stage represents a crucial step toward the championship.
