The Türkiye National Men’s Basketball Team is set to face Poland in the EuroBasket 2025 quarter-final tomorrow at Arena Riga. The match is scheduled to tip off at 5:00 p.m. (GMT +3)
Under the guidance of head coach Ergin Ataman, Türkiye dominated Group A, winning all five of their games against Serbia, Latvia, Portugal, Estonia, and Czechia to finish top of the group and advance to the round of 16.
In the round of 16, Türkiye faced Sweden, who finished fourth in Group B, and secured an 85-79 victory—marking the team’s first quarter-final appearance in the tournament since EuroBasket 2009.
Türkiye is one of only two teams in EuroBasket 2025 to have won all six games so far, alongside last year’s world champion, Germany. If Türkiye reaches the semi-finals, they will achieve a perfect 7-0 record, a feat not seen since EuroBasket 1957.
The team ranks highly in key statistics:
A win over Poland would mark Türkiye’s first EuroBasket semi-final appearance in 24 years. Türkiye previously claimed silver as hosts in EuroBasket 2001, falling 78-69 to Yugoslavia in the final. Their debut tournament in EuroBasket 1949 saw Türkiye finish fourth among seven teams.
Tomorrow’s matchup will be the ninth encounter between Türkiye and Poland in EuroBasket history. Out of the previous eight games, Türkiye has won two and Poland six. Türkiye last faced Poland in the group stages of EuroBasket 2009 and EuroBasket 2011, winning 87-69 in 2009 but losing 84-83 in 2011.
Poland, one of the host nations for EuroBasket 2025, finished second in Group D with three wins and two losses.
In the round of 16, Poland defeated Bosnia and Herzegovina 80-72, marking their second consecutive quarter-final appearance in the tournament. The team reached the semi-finals in the previous EuroBasket in 2022.
